This time of year is packed full of holiday parties. This is a great time to catch up with family and friends, win ugly sweater contests, and eat delicious food. Unfortunately, this might not be a great time for your braces. In fact, your braces could be in danger if you don’t take proper care of them. So, to help you care for your braces during holiday parties, our doctors have some tips for you, which are:

-Stay away from appliance-damaging foods: These foods could include caramel, toffee, apples, and other hard-to-eat, sticky, and chewy foods. These foods can break your brackets and wires and delay your orthodontic treatment.

-Brush and floss: Make sure to brush and floss your teeth after you have eaten your meal and treats. This can help you eliminate plaque buildup on your teeth and braces and can also help you keep your smile healthy and strong.

-Wear a mouthguard: If you play high-contact sports at your holiday parties, make sure to wear a mouthguard. That way if you get hit in the mouth, your braces and teeth can be safe from oral injury.
